The different changes and improvements are described in Patric Lodder, Dogecoin Core developer’s, GitHub paper. Among all improvements, the recommended dust limit has been lowered from 1 DOGE to 0,01 DOGE

Moreover, with the new updates, the addnotes records have been limited to 800. The security updates included: the removal of alert systems, increased reliability of the transaction download system, and memory management improvements.

The update also includes a new RCP method, which according to the report:

helps wallet operators identify if any transactions are stuck (have not been mined and are not in the mempool) and enable resolution. This helps in cases where a node-local fee or dust policies change, to prevent the node from sending out old transactions that got lost.

Another RCP method, setmaxconnections, accordingly allows setting a maximum number of connections for the node without the need to restart the network. The last RCP method, rescan, will allow “speed up the rescan process for keys that are known to be generated after a certain date or block height”.

The Dogecoin advocate Elon Musk did not miss the opportunity to reply to a Twitter post saying “Updates!”.

The news about the update comes right on time, as on July 20, Dogecoin registers more than 80,000 transactions. This is the most it has been since May 2021.

The increase could be partially determined by the “Doge father” Elon Musk. As on July 20, Elon Musk, while talking about Tesla’s decision to sell the majority of Bitcoin, claimed that the company still has all the Dogecoin it owns
